White Spot Lesions – Treatments for Enamel Decalcification

What are White Spots?

White spot lesions before Icon treatment

Poor oral hygiene during orthodontic care can lead to enamel decalcification, or “white spot lesions” on teeth. These are very unsightly, and can ruin an orthodontic finish and an otherwise beautiful smile. While orthodontic brackets are in place, the area underneath them is sealed and protected and healthy. When plaque is allowed to build up around the braces, “windows” of healthy enamel surrounded are surrounded by “frames” of scarred enamel known as “white spots”

The best treatment of all is prevention. We provide our patients with all of the tools and skills they need to prevent enamel scarring, but it does still happen on occasion. At one point in time, you had to just “live” with these enamel scars, or have the scars drilled out and filled by your dentist. Gianquinto OrthoArts now offers a treatment to rid the teeth of these unsightly marks in one visit, without drilling! Best of all, many insurance plans cover this! It also strengthens the tooth enamel, and prevents further decay. We can even treat your decalcification spots if you had braces somewhere else!

  • The teeth are rinsed and dried
