Dr. Jared Gianquinto was born and raised in Bakersfield, where he learned how to ride horses at an early age and quit piano lessons because his brother looked cooler playing guitar. He attended Garces Memorial High School, University of Colorado at Boulder and finished his undergraduate career with honors at the University of New Mexico. After a short diversion into the tech industry during the dot-com era, he moved to Philadelphia to pursue his dental training at Temple University School of Dentistry. After 9/11, he decided to join the Navy like his dad and grandfather, and accepted a Health Professions Scholarship. Less importantly, he earned the prestigious Pierre Fauchard Scholarship, accompanied humanitarian missions to Haiti and Guatemala, served on the Board of Admissions, Alumni Association Board of Directors, and was inducted into the Endodontics and Oral Surgery honors societies.
As a Navy Dentist, Dr. G completed an Advanced Education in General Dentistry residency at Naval Medical Center San Diego and was certified in combat casualty care by the Defense Medical Readiness Training Institute. He then served as Dental Officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, where he made lots of custom vampire teeth, played bass in the Catholic Choir on Sundays, and got to ride in a jet one time. His efforts earned him Navy and Marine Corps Commendation, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement and Humanitarian Service medals, two Battle “E” awards and a Surface Warfare qualification.
For all his valiant work, Dr. G has a cool plaque hanging up in his office, along with the ability to fall asleep just about anywhere.
After two West Pacific deployments, Dr. G left active duty and was selected to attend orthodontics residency. In between drill weekends with the 4th Dental Battalion providing dental care for Marines all over the East Coast, Lieutenant Commander G served as Chief Resident of Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics. Besides traditional braces, Dr. G also has training in cleft lip/palate treatment from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, Invisalign, surgical orthodontics, lingual orthodontics, orofacial pain, TMJ treatment, and habit appliances. He also earned a master’s degree in oral biology to finally win the who-has-more-letters-after-their-name contest with his brother.
Dr. G has a little bit of a life outside of his work at Gianquinto OrthoArts. He loves spending time with his wife Sarah, who is a 4th-grade teacher, and their son Giovanni. He is an active member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, past President of the Kern County Dental Society and member of the American Association of Orthodontists. He also pretends to be a pilot, a landlocked surfer, and fill-in bass player for bands around town. Be sure to ask him about the guitars on the walls at the office – they all have stories, and he can only play one of them marginally well.
